Box Office Top 20: ‘Star Wars’ flies toward ‘Avatar’ record

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is even closer to usurping “Avatar’s” power as a tip domestic box bureau earner of all time.

Disney’s record-busting film brought in $90.2 million over a New Year’s weekend, bringing a domestic sum to $742.2 million. “Avatar” warranted $760.5 million over a melodramatic lifetime — a record “Star Wars” is approaching to pass this week.
